ART BACKGROUND: I'm a self taught artist. My first art job was in 1978, doing paintings and murals for resaurant decor for a company called Fine Line Design. After one more design firm, I went freelance in 1980. I started out doing greeting cards and book covers. When I broke into the movie business there was no looking back. I painted comps, movie posters, and video box covers for years. During a meeting, I was once given a business card of an art director at Disney Home Video. When I went to the meeting I had among other things, eight sketches I had done for the movie poster of Ruthless People. After six art directors looked through my color samples, one of them said, "We're looking for someone to do comps for the video box cover for a movie called Ruthless People." I smiled, and reached into the back flap of my portfolio. I brought out my sketches and asked, "like these?". They could only say one thing, "You're hired". Thus began a wonderful relationship with the Mouse. I've since done well over 600 jobs for Disney. I've worked with many other big and smaller companies along the way (see Client List). In all those years, I have never been late delivering a job, and rarely complain (at least out loud) to the client. A client once called me 'easy to work with'. I've won many cable TV ACE awards, Hollywood Reporter awards, and many in the fantasy art fields. FAMILY/LIFESTYLE I live with my wife Niel, who is an amazing actress, but who works as a para-legal. We have a beautiful daughter named Amanda, who was born in 1995. 3 cats, Lynx, Shiloh, and Zeta complete the family. Our home sits on five acreas with a beautiful view. We have a pool, and a 5 stall barn. A great place for a child to grow up. We live about 20 minutes from Portland Oregon. I built my dream studio in 2001. It sits about 100' from the house. Half of it is for photography, and the other half is divided between computers, and easle work. A dark room, and bathroom are attatched. It has 12' ceilings, and is 1300 square feet. I designed it in the Prairie style. ARTISTIC INFLUENCES Herbert Draper, Lord Leighton, Bouguereau, Mucha, N.C. Wyeth, Perugini, Booth, Waterhouse, Gerome, Tadema, Dicksee, and many others. |
